Graduate AdmissionAdmission to the certificate or joint PhD program requires a formal application, which is approved by the ICS Academic Program Director. To be admitted to one of the graduate programs, a student must be in good standing in one of the participating academic units. Graduate students may apply to these ICS programs at any time after they are admitted to a graduate program, but they do not normally start course work for the certificate or joint PhD program until their second year of graduate school. The first year for most graduate students is spent fulfilling course requirements for the advanced degree in their home department. The certificate in cognitive science consists of course requirements only. The Combined PhD with cognitive science program has some additional requirements. To enroll in either program, students submit an application form that outlines a plan of study for the fulfillment of the requirements. See the Cognitive Science Course Catalog to help create your plan. Not all courses listed in the catalog are offered every semester, so also consult with your faculty sponsor when creating your plan. The application form must be signed by a faculty sponsor, who is a faculty fellow at ICS. The Academic Program Director will approve the plan or notify the candidate of any required changes in the plan. On approval of the course plan, the student becomes an ICS student member of the institute of Cognitive Science, with the privileges that accompany such membership. Admission forms can be obtained from the Institute office in Muenzinger D424. You may also phone (303.492.5063), fax (303.492.7177), or email your request for an application form. |
